“Cosmic X Paradigm” occupies an unusual place in Jack Armstrong’s work. Created in 2019, Armstrong identifies it as his final and most complex Cosmic X painting. He speaks of several paradigms within the painting, but leaves their discovery to the viewer.

Cosmic X is not easy to reduce to one idea. That is part of its strength. Jack Armatrong describes the language behind these works as Cosmic Extensionalism. It is his own artistic philosophy, built around energy, intuition, consciousness, and the relationship between the artist and the act of painting. But the paintings do not depend on an explanation of that philosophy. They work first as paintings.
