Jack Armstrong: The Last Wizard of Art

Cosmic Cowboy Boots - world's most expensive boots

Jack Armstrong arrived in New York City in 1979 and quickly found himself surrounded by some of the most influential figures in art, fashion, and music. His first encounter with Andy Warhol took place at an event where Warhol was speaking with Ralph Lauren, Estée Lauder, and Oscar de la Renta. That same evening, Warhol invited Armstrong to Studio 54, where he introduced him to icons such as Jackie Onassis, Michael Jackson, and Liza Minnelli.

A Vision That Transcends Art

Jack Armstrong’s career has been defined by his refusal to conform to traditional artistic and commercial expectations. His dedication to artistic freedom, his revolutionary approach to art, and his ability to bridge luxury and creativity have cemented his status as a visionary.

Andy Warhol once called him “The Last Wizard of Art,” a title that continues to resonate as Armstrong challenges the boundaries of contemporary art, transforming it into something limitless, cosmic, and timeless.

When speaking with artist Jack Armstrong, his recollections of all the famous people he became friends with seems like a magical journey that became the essence of his Cosmic ‘X’ art.  He met Warren Buffett, when he was still in his teens in Omaha, Nebraska.  That was only the beginning.  The two richest women of their time, Doris Duke and Alice Walton of Walmart Fame were early collectors of his paintings.

While living in NYC in the 1980’s, Freddy Mercury, David Bowie and Michael Jackson purchased his work and became friends.  Luciano Pavarotti, Liza Minnelli and movie stars Steve McQueen, Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett and Elizabeth Taylor were his pals.  Jack met Andy Warhol, who was speaking with Ralph Lauren, Estee Lauder and Oscar de la Renta in Bloomingdale’s Flagship Store in NYC.  As they say, the rest is history.  All became his friends.

“It has been an amazing 50 Years in Art.  A true Magical Experience.  I feel honored to actually meet 7 US Presidents – Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush and Trump.  In 2025, the last few original paintings in my ‘private’ collection will be offered for sale.  The collectors who purchase them will be fortunate to own a Cosmic ‘X’ original, as there are only 100 in the world.”

The Last Wizard - Jack Armstrong

The path to the most expensive contemporary art leads straight to Jack Armstrong, or “The Last Wizard”, as his friend, Andy Warhol, nicknamed him. He worked with Warhol in New York, the city he landed in 1979, along with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. After refusing a solo exhibition with the Castelli Gallery, he presented an anti-dealer ethos he would maintain throughout his artistic career.

Exactly twenty-five years ago, Mr. Armstrong founded his artistic current, “Cosmic Extensionalism”, after the crazy and equally visionary gesture of buying back his first artistic production and then destroying it between ‘94 and ‘97 to initiate a new style of modern art.

“In 2019, Jack Armstrong finished 100 paintings, with prices ranging from 10 to 300 million dollars, of which only 22 paintings were available for sale. Jack’s ability to command such high prices for his work, especially in comparison to Andy Warhol’s market value during his lifetime, speaks volumes about Armstrong’s pieces’ unique appeal and investment potential.” stated international art expert Max Sukharev.
